How do I sign up for an electricity contract?

In France, electricity is not automatically included in your rental contract! You must therefore subscribe to an electricity contract. We explain everything you need to know about it! ⚡️

Required documents / information

To subscribe to an electricity contract in France, you will necessarily need an IBAN and your Delivery Point (PDL)

PDL: This reference is to be asked to your landlord if it is not indicated on your rental contract, it will allow your supplier to connect your electricity contract to the housing.

If you do not have your PDL, you can also provide this information:
- The address of the accommodation
- The serial number of the meter (14-digit reference engraved on the meter housing)

IBAN: This is the international standardized bank account identifier. It is necessary to send it to your electricity supplier so that he can proceed to the automatic debit of the monthly payments. You can usually find it on the bank account number (RIB) or on your bank space.

Payment

The electricity supplier will estimate your consumption according to several criteria: surface of the property, electrical appliance, etc. and calculate an amount to be paid every month.

At the end of your contract, if you have consumed more than the estimated amount, you will have to pay back the missing part to your supplier. On the other hand, if you have consumed less than the estimated amount, then the supplier will reimburse you directly to your account.
