Preparing your student visa application also involves knowing the reasons for refusal so that you can avoid them. This may seem a little complicated at first, but don't worry, we've made it as simple as possible to help you! ✌️

There are different types of student visa refusals in France:

1. The travel document presented is false/falsified
2. You have not provided proof that you have sufficient resources to cover your expenses of any kind during the stay in France, or you are unable to legally acquire these means
3. You have not provided proof of your admission to a higher education institution or a professional training organization to follow a course of study
4. You have not provided sufficient information to allow the consular authority to ensure that your stay in France for study purposes is not abusive 
5. The information provided to justify the conditions of your stay is incomplete and/or unreliable
6. You are subject to a measure prohibiting you from returning to French territory 
7. You present a risk of threat to public order / public security / public health

Reason 1: The travel document presented is false/falsified

This reason means that the consular services have considered that you have provided a false travel document. In addition to being denied a visa, you risk being inadmissible for 5 years, as forgery is a criminal offense. 

Reason 2: You have not provided proof that you have sufficient resources to cover your expenses of any kind during your stay in France

This reason means that the consular services considered that you did not provide sufficient elements justifying your financial capacities during your study stay. 

It is commonly used when the student cannot prove indisputably that he/she has the required resources equivalent to 615€/month for the school year. 

Reason 3: You have not provided proof of admission to an institution of higher education or to a vocational training organization to follow a course of study, or you are unable to legally acquire these means

This reason means that you have provided a registration issued by an unauthorized institution.

Reason 4: You have not provided sufficient information to allow the consular authority to ensure that your stay in France for study purposes is not abusive

This reason means that the consular services have considered that your file has been poorly constituted or really presents an abusive character. 

Do not forget to check that the list of documents requested is present in your file and that the documents are in order and legible. 

Reason 5: The information provided to justify the conditions of the stay is incomplete and/or not reliable

This reason is very similar to reason 5, but this time will encompass the conditions of stay in a general way, that is, the conditions of resources and accommodation.

Resource conditions

The file does not clearly show the financial capacities of the student or the person taking care of him/her.

Housing conditions

Insufficient proof of housing (missing documents, doubt about the student's housing)

Reason 6: You are subject to a measure prohibiting you from returning to French territory

This reason concerns students who have already lived in France and who are subject to an administrative decision prohibiting their return to France. 

Reason 7 : You present a risk of threat to public order / public security / public health

This reason means that the consular services have considered that the student may present a risk to public order, public security, or public health for various reasons (e.g.: criminal conviction, risk of contamination)
