🏠 CROUS: how to apply for a room?

CROUS residences offer student rooms and studios at lower prices than the private market 🏠 Here is how to maximise your chances ✨
1️⃣ Know which phase you can apply in
CROUS housing is allocated in two phases on trouverunlogement.lescrous.fr:
- Main phase (May–June): reserved for students who submitted a social file (DSE) by 31 May, with priority for grant holders. Most international students are not concerned.
- Complementary phase (from early July): open to all students, including international students without a DSE. In 2026 it opened on 7 July and stays open as long as rooms remain. The 2027 dates will be announced in spring 2027.
⚠️ During the complementary phase, you can only book the rooms still available. New rooms appear over the summer as people cancel, and rooms go very fast, sometimes within minutes.
2️⃣ Create your account
Create an account on messervices.etudiant.gouv.fr.
3️⃣ Apply for a room
When the complementary phase opens, browse the available rooms on trouverunlogement.lescrous.fr and apply for a specific one. Log in as early as you can.
Each listing gives the size, rent, reservation fee, address, transport links, nearby schools, equipment and residence services (bike shed, Wi-Fi, laundry).
4️⃣ Follow your application
If you are offered a room, you must confirm it by paying the reservation fee within the deadline given in the e-mail. Then go to messervices.etudiant.gouv.fr, section "Manage my housing" → "Cité'U", for the next steps.
If your application is refused, keep checking the site: new rooms become available all summer.
No CROUS room? Other options
CROUS rooms are limited, so plan an alternative: private student residences, a room in a flatshare, or a furnished studio. Livinfrance accommodation offers ready-to-live-in rooms, with Livinfrance acting as your guarantor.
