Do I need home insurance to receive CAF housing aid?
Home insurance is not a condition for receiving CAF housing aid. But as a tenant in France you need it anyway: it is a legal obligation for both unfurnished and furnished accommodation used as your main home. Your landlord can ask for your insurance certificate when you move in and every year, and can end your lease if you are not insured.
The CAF can also check that your situation matches what you declared. A CAF officer may visit you at home or ask you to come to the CAF, and you must show the documents requested, for example:
- your passport and residence permit;
- your lease;
- your home insurance certificate;
- recent utility bills;
- your certificate of enrolment;
- your bank statements.
