What are the conditions to get CAF?
Conditions for Receiving APL from the CAF in France
If you wish to benefit from the Aide Personnalisée au Logement (APL) as a student, here are the main conditions you need to meet:
1. Be French or a foreigner in regular status
You must hold a valid residence permit (if you are a foreigner) and be in regular status on French territory.
If you are a European student participating in a program such as Erasmus, simply presenting your passport is sufficient to prove your regular status.
2. Be a tenant or co-tenant
The accommodation you live in must be rented (or co-rented).
Important:
- The landlord must not be a close family member (father, mother, grandparents, spouse, or child).
- The accommodation must be designated as a primary residence in France, meaning it is your main place of living.
3. Not benefit from free accommodation
APL is only available to tenants or co-tenants who pay rent. If you live for free with a friend or relative, you cannot claim this aid.
4. Be on French territory
To receive APL, you must be physically present in France and occupy the accommodation for which you are applying.
