What is a check-in or "Etat des lieux" ?

Don't underestimate this part of the process. It's a very important moment.

You might have heard of this : "Etat des lieux". It literally means "state of the place".

It's a very important piece of paper because while you check in the house/room, your landlord will state the condition of everything in your room.

When you are moving in, take notes and tell your landlord about all the issues you can see.

Once you leave, while check-in out, the landlord will take this paper and do another statement of condition. The comparison of the two documents will help the landlord to know either if your landlord has to refund you the full deposit or a part of the deposit to pay back the damage you've caused.
