Are you preparing your visa application and would like more information about the financial guarantor part? Then this article is for you! ✨

First, you should know that the most common reason for visa refusal is reason #2

You have not provided proof that you have sufficient resources to cover expenses of any kind, during the stay in France, or you are unable to legally acquire these means

This reason is used when the student does not present sufficient elements proving incontestably that he/she will have the required resources (superior or equal to 615 €/month) for at least one year.

Indeed, student life in France is expensive and the consulate/embassy will not take the risk of allowing the entry into France of students who will not be able to study in the best conditions.

Does the guarantor have to reside in France?

It's not mandatory to have a guarantor residing in France, but it contributes greatly to obtaining the student visa. Indeed, the embassy will know that you will have someone on site to support you, whether financially or for all other procedures.

However, if you only have a guarantor who does not live in France, you will certainly have to provide more supporting documents.

How do I choose the right guarantor for my visa application?

The choice of a guarantor can be quite complex since the guarantor must prove that he/she is able to support you financially during your study period and also meet certain conditions imposed by the embassy.

The family aspect

The family relationship with the financial guarantor must be as direct as possible. Therefore, only the following are accepted

  • Biological or adoptive parents
  • Grandparents
  • Direct aunts and uncles

The financial aspect

The financial guarantor must be able to prove that he/she has the capacity to support you financially:

  • Stable income sufficient to support the student
  • Solvent

What if I don't have a guarantor?

If you do not have a guarantor, or at least none that meets the conditions mentioned above, then you have two options.
